Food Insecurity is the lack of access to enough food for an active, healthy life due to limited financial resources.
- The Newport AAC Food Pantry feeds an average of over 200 individuals every month – That’s 5,000+ meals. 30,000+ meals every 6 months.
- 42% of those we serve are children (under 18 years); 21% are elders (60 years+). 5% are homeless.
- According to Feeding America (2023 statistics), 12.1% of Sullivan County residents suffer from food insecurity (that’s 5,280 people) – and 17.2% of children (1,350) suffer from food insecurity. Those statistics are not mere numbers. Those number represent people who don’t have enough to eat today.
- Consider this: You are visiting Sunapee Harbor – cruising the stands at the Newport Farmer’s Market – or walking around Hannafords or Home Depot. If there are 100 people in the crowd – 12 people don’t have enough to eat. That’s 12 too many!
